SMSF Audit Assistant

An SMSF Audit Assistant supports the SMSF audit team in delivering accurate, compliant, and timely audits for Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs). The role involves assisting with audit file preparation, compliance checks, administration, and liaising with accountants, trustees, and internal stakeholders.

This position is ideal for candidates pursuing a career in accounting, superannuation, or audit services, particularly within specialist SMSF firms or accounting practices.

Job Qualifications/Requirements
  • Essential:
    • Degree or studies in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or related discipline.
    • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication.
    • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Professional and confidential approach to client information.
  • Desirable:
    • Previous experience in SMSF administration, accounting, or audit
    • Understanding of superannuation legislation and compliance
    • Experience using:
    ⁃ Class Super
    ⁃ BGL Simple Fund 360
    ⁃ Xero
    ⁃ MYOB
    ⁃ Cloud-based audit software
    • Progress toward CA or CPA qualification.
Job Responsibilities
  • Assist auditors in conducting financial and compliance audits of SMSFs.
  • Prepare and organise audit working papers and supporting documentation.
  • Review financial statements, investment reports, trust deeds, and member records.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate audit records.
  • Follow up with clients and accounting firms regarding missing information.
  • Assist with compliance checks in line with:
    ⁃ SIS Act requirements
    ⁃ ATO regulations
    ⁃ Australian Auditing Standards
  • Support the completion of audit reports and management letters.
  • Maintain audit tracking systems and workflow management.
  • Assist with administration tasks and client correspondence.
  • Work collaboratively with senior auditors and SMSF specialists to meet deadlines.
