Paralegal

Job Description

The Paralegal plays a crucial role in supporting solicitors by handling various tasks such as maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, and drafting documents. This position requires teamwork with other paralegals and solicitors, as well as frequent interactions with clients and third-party vendors.

Job Qualifications/Requirements
  • Relevant qualifications in legal studies, such as a diploma or degree in paralegal studies, law, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a paralegal role is preferred, providing familiarity with legal procedures and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, legislation, and practices relevant to the area of law practiced by the firm.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong research, writing, and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in using legal management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and training, including participation in continuing legal education (CLE) opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
  • Investigate the facts of claims.
  • Organize and maintain documents in both paper and digital formats, ensuring easy identification and access.
  • Manage lawyers’ diaries, accurately recording court dates, medical appointments, and court attendances.
  • Prepare correspondence and court documents, including subpoenas and briefs to counsel.
  • Liaise regularly with clients and external providers.
  • Maintain a sound knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Confidently participate in routine client meetings and court appearances.
  • Engage in professional development through external continuing legal education (CLE) or lectures.
  • Record time spent on tasks and meet work-in-progress (WIP) and fee budgets.
  • Perform other general administrative responsibilities as required.
