Power BI Specialist

Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Power BI Specialist to lead our business intelligence initiatives and transform complex data into clear, actionable business insights. In this role, your primary focus will be designing, developing, and optimizing end-to-end Power BI solutions that support our operations, finance, and leadership teams in making smarter, data-driven decisions. While this position focuses exclusively on Power BI expertise, experience extracting and modeling data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or other ERP systems is highly valuable. You will work closely with business stakeholders to build scalable reporting structures, automate manual reporting tasks, and foster a data-informed culture.

Job Qualifications/Requirements
  • Power BI Expertise (Essential):
    • Proven track record as a Power BI Specialist, BI Developer, or Data Analyst focusing on the Microsoft BI stack.
    • Advanced knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M Language), and dimensional data modeling techniques.
    • Deep hands-on experience with Power BI Service administration, workspace management, and Row-Level Security (RLS).
    • Strong UI/UX focus on building intuitive, clean, and interactive data visualisations.
    • Experience utilizing performance tuning tools such as DAX Studio or Tabular Editor (desirable).
  • Systems & Data Sources:
    • Hands-on experience sourcing and modeling data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics NAV, or similar ERP systems (Oracle NetSuite, SAP, etc.).
    • Practical understanding of standard business processes across finance, purchasing, inventory, and operations.
  • Technical Skills & Automation:
    • Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, testing, and data transformation.
    • Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and OData for system integration.
    • Experience with Microsoft Power Automate, Power Apps, or Power Platform integrations.
    • Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, Power Pivot).
Job Responsibilities
  • Power BI Development & Data Modeling:
    • Design, build, and maintain interactive, high-performance Power BI dashboards and visual reports.
    • Write complex DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) calculations, measures, and calculated tables.
    • Build scalable relational data models using star and snowflake schemas to ensure performance and data integrity.
    • Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) using Power Query and M code.
  • Data Integration & ERP Systems:
    • Connect Power BI to various data sources, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SQL databases, OData feeds, and REST APIs.
    • Ensure operational, financial, inventory, and purchasing data is accurate, secure, and accessible.
    • Validate data accuracy against source systems and troubleshoot data pipeline or reporting issues.
  • Governance & Platform Administration:
    • Manage Power BI Service environments, including workspaces, apps, scheduled data refreshes, and gateway configurations.
    • Implement data security standards, including Row-Level Security (RLS) and object-level permissions.
    • Establish reporting best practices, dataset governance, and comprehensive system documentation.
  • Business Collaboration & Optimization:
    • Partner with department managers to gather requirements and translate business questions into reporting frameworks.
    • Identify opportunities to automate manual workflows and integrate dashboards with Microsoft Power Automate or Power Apps.
    • Deliver user training and support to promote self-service analytics across the business.
