Accounts & Project Cost Analyst

Job Description

The Accounts & Project Cost Analyst is responsible for managing and overseeing both accounts receivable and payable functions, as well as providing comprehensive cost control and financial analysis for projects. This role supports the organisation in maintaining financial accuracy, optimising cash flow, and ensuring project costs align with budgets. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and able to bridge accounting functions with project cost management to ensure project profitability and financial compliance.

Job Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks.
  • Strong understanding of Australian accounting principles and regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets, and other relevant software.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Certification as a Bookkeeper or similar credential.
  • Experience collaborating with Australian clients or companies.
  • Knowledge of taxation laws and regulations in Australia.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment.
Job Responsibilities
  • Generate invoices, track payments, and follow up on outstanding accounts to ensure timely collection.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate billing and resolve any client disputes.
  • Process and record vendor invoices and expense reimbursements with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure payment terms are adhered to, negotiate favourable terms with vendors, and manage payment schedules.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and generate regular reports detailing outstanding payables.
  • Monitor and analyse project budgets, expenditures, and forecasts to ensure alignment with financial targets.
  • Work with project managers to develop project budgets, track actual costs, and analyse variances.
  • Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and identify opportunities for financial efficiencies within projects.
  • Prepare regular financial reports for projects, including cost tracking, revenue projections, and expense variance analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to project financials and performance.
  • Support the development of financial forecasts and assist with project financial planning.
  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls, accounting policies, and project cost standards.
  • Conduct audits and reconciliation for both AP and AR functions, ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Maintain organized, detailed records of project costs, invoices, and payments for audit and reference purposes.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhering to the guidelines outlined in the Yenem Playbook
  • Other duties as required
